Camera Club of the Year Needs You

Photography News’ Camera Club of the Year Competition 2017-18

This notice is to tell you that your Committee have decided to enter the Competition and to invite entries from members for the first round which will take place shortly.  Further details of the competition are given on page 16 of the current issue, No 49, of Photography News (https://www.photographynews.co.uk/latest-issue/photography-news) and will be discussed at the club meeting on 7 November.

The Theme for the first round is “Scenics” which are described as outdoor scenes that can be urban or rural, home or abroad.  It is clear that ordinary shots won’t be good enough to get high scores.  The images must grab the judges’ attention in the few seconds each image will be allowed.  Impact is all important.

We will bring forward a considered method of selecting images for the rest of the competition, another four themes, but for the first round we need a quick process in order to meet the deadline of 19 November.

For this round we will go back over previously submitted images and select from those that have been most successful in our internal competitions, as well as external competitions.  Also you are invited to submit one additional pdi image only that meets the criteria for the “Scenic” theme in the usual competition format, and email it to .  There is a competition requirement that the image should be at least 1500px on the longest edge.  Your pdi image must be received in the correct format by midnight on Thursday 9 November.  Once we have a shortlist, a selection of 5 images for submission will be made in the same way that we do for other external competitions.

This is a great opportunity for the club to display its talent, but winning will not be easy.  Knowing how good New City is, and how hard they worked to win the competition last season, we should be under no illusion that this competition is ours for the taking.  The pdi images we submit will have to be geared for this type of competition.
