The first session of the new season, on 1st October, is fast approaching.
Don’t forget that this is when we have our Summer Events Competition, a reminder of all the photo opportunities we have had over the summer break, a chance to share your images and possibly win the Summer Events trophy.
The closing date for the competition is Tuesday 24th September.
Anyone who has attended a summer event may enter up to six images but please add your images to photoentry in order of preference in case we don’t have time to use them all.
Usual rules for sizing etc apply for entering images. If you need a reminder go onto the website, find the competitions tab then ‘submitting images and prints’. (This competition is PDIs only).
Please remember not to include your name or numbers in your image titles.
The photoentry site is open and ready for your entries – just log in, go to main menu and Summer Events.
We look forward to a good competition on the night so get cracking and enter your best images.

New Season Competitions
The competition schedule for the new season is now on the club website.
Please note that there has been a change to the competition brief for the Seasonal Points Competition ‘Long Exposure’ which is taking place on 25th February 2020.
It now reads:
‘Long Exposure Photography’ is a genre of photography that consists of two parts. The first is the deliberate and creative use of an extended shutter speed beyond that which is necessary to obtain a regular ‘correct’ exposure of a scene. The second is where there is such a shortage of available light, that the only way to obtain a correctly exposed image is to use a shutter speed that goes beyond what the photographer can easily take by handholding the camera.
The first Seasonal Points competition of the season takes place on 15th October 2019 with the closing date of 8th October.
The competition site will soon be open on photoentry . For a reminder of how to prepare your images for entry to competitions go to the website, Competitions; Submitting Images and Prints.
Also, for those of you who have attended this year’s summer events, the photoentry site is now open for your entries to the competition to be held on the first evening of the new season, 1st October.
Tuesday 1st October 2019 sees the start of Bedford Camera Club’s new winter season programme.
On that Tuesday “welcome evening” we will kick off with an illustrated presentation of the line-up of speakers and the planned “Members Evenings”, followed by the “Summer Events” open competition, to be judged by the membership.
Over the past summer months there have been in excess of 15 events and photo opportunities that have been offered to members. Some of the images taken during these events can be seen on the club web site under the “Summer Events Gallery”.
Anyone who has attended a summer event may enter this light-hearted competition for a chance to claim the winner’s trophy. You may enter up to six images but please put them in order of preference as we may not use all of them, depending on the number of entries. They do not need to be images which have appeared in the Summer Events galleries.
Send your images to photoentry in the usual way by the closing date of Tuesday 24th September.
Woodland, deer and safari park residents
This walk was postponed in June due to inclement weather. It is now rescheduled for Tuesday 27th August.
This is a walk with lots of variety including different species of deer, woodland wild flowers and ferns, wallabies and various other safari park animals.
Red kite have also been seen there in the past.
We will walk from the park entrance on the A4012 Turnpike Road to the centre of the park before turning round and returning to our starting point. Please wear suitable footwear as some paths are uneven.
The meeting point is Horsepool Lane, Husborne Crawley, MK43 0XD, just opposite the park entrance. Meet at 6.15pm.
Please email Linda on email@example.com if you intending to come so we know to wait for you and let her know if you would like to car share from Bedford.
CHARITY GOLF DAY
Paul Curtis is holding a charity golf day in memory of his son and is asking for interested members to help him to photograph the event.
The event is taking place on Friday 23rd August.
Please get in touch with Paul to express your interest or for more information – phone 07794 273552 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Paul would appreciate your help in making the day a success.
Two events are coming up over the next few weeks which should provide us with some interesting and fun photo opportunities.
27th – 28th July 10.00am – 6pm: Bedford Medieval Festival – Castle Mound and The Embankment
The FREE entertainment includes groups and performers from the Medieval Combat Society, The Wythe Retinue, God’s Company of Tabor, the King’s Executioner, Talonted Feathers, A Merrie Noyse Minstrels, and England’s most famous Medieval Fool, Juggler, and Jester, the legendary Devilstick Peat Fibbs.
The fun starts at 10am and there will be colourful tentage and living history encampments, circus skills school for children, music and dance, have a go archery, ferret racing, craft demonstrations, the preparation and serving of a medieval feast, the chance to hold a hawk or an owl, black powder artillery demonstrations, and a medieval sword fighting tournament which will quite probably end in a nasty melee or “free for all” with last man standing getting the prize.
11th August 7.30am – noon: Bedford Triathlon – Russell Park and The Embankment
Beginning with several groups swimming 1.5k in the river by The Embankment starting between 7.30am and 7.55am followed by a 40k cycle ride going out into the villages and finally, a 3k run taking in The Embankment and Russell Park.
Further details, including the cycle and run routes, can be found on the website here
This is a last call for members to join an evening at Merri Flowers flower farm in Oakley on 20th August or possibly, for one or two people, the 6th August.
We have four spaces still available, open to members and, if the spaces are not filled, guests.
Each evening runs from 6pm to 8.30pm at a cost per person of £10 including refreshments.
Come and photograph flowers and insects, landscapes and sunset.
Please let Linda know as soon as possible if you would like a place and definitely by 1st July.
