Bruce has arranged for Viveca Koh to give a talk to the Bedford CC on March 10th
The online magazine f11 has an article about Viveca (in the form of an interview illustrated with her images) in the March edition (pages 20-47) which can be viewed online at f11 or downloaded as a PDF
If you haven’t seen f11 then take a look. It is produced by a team of photographers from New Zealand and carries interviews and articles from photographers from around the world. It contains many inspiring images to enjoy and it is free each month. Back issues can be found on the f11 web site
Bedford CC narrowly missed out on a place in the second round, finishing a very creditable 16th out of the 34 clubs who entered. John Pegram’s “Bearded Seal” was one of only 5 images (out of a total of 660) to be awarded the maximum 15 points. Congratulations and very well done to John.
Beyond Group who were first and Norfolk Photography Group who were 2nd will go on to represent the EAF at the PAGB PDI Championships in Warwick later in the year. Ipswich & District Photographic Society came 3rd.
The megapixel race is on with Nikon (36Mp), Canon (50Mp) and soon Sony hitting the 50Mp range.
If you’re tempted to buy one of these cameras Drew Gardner offers some sound advice, the cost doesn’t stop with the camera…
With a fantastic score of 95 out of 100, Bedford finish joint 2nd and are only beaten by Benfleet with a near perfect 99. If you would like to see the full results and view the top seven club’s images go to http://www.cambcc.org.uk/digital/dic_results.php
Last night (27th Jan 2015) I gave a talk on the technical issues of using an external flashgun.
I wanted to demonstrate that using a shutter speed higher than 1/200 sec on a typical DSLR will create a black band obscuring the base of the image, the faster the speed the larger the black band.
Like all good demo’s it failed, the black band did not materialise and I was able to take a complete picture at 1/500 sec. Of course, as I drove home, I realised what had happened.
Club competition PDIs need to be a fixed size with a black background and with an sRGB colour profile.
If you only use Adobe Lightroom this is not so easy to do.
There is now a document on the Members’ Tips page on ways to make Lightroom generate the correct club PDI format
