Clarification on the number of times an image may be used in competition.
Following my email of 5 November I would like to clarify the rules that limit the number of times an image can be used in our competitions.
But first I would like to say that the benefit of taking part in competitions is in having our work objectively critiqued and compared with others. It helps improve our photography. The rules should not be restrictive but encourage participation and using images submitted to Fun competitions, such as Points of View and camera phone, should be permitted in the Prize Competitions listed.
It follows, then, that the competition should be seen as an opportunity to put up something new and to see what others think of it.
But there is, of course, always the prize to be won.
With all that in mind we will be amending the Internal Competitions page on the website as follows.
Replace
An image may be used no more than twice across the following competitions*
With
Images should be used once only in the following competitions*. Those that appear to be the same should not be used.
A used image may be reprocessed  once to change its appearance eg by changing tonal range, or medium from print to PDI, and the resulting image may be entered into the competitions*.
The ‘following competitions’ are each of the Seasonal Points rounds, the Stan Searle trophy and the Philip Lepper trophy.
